We need to dig deeper into this concept of reconciliation. The question: shouldn’t we be agents that
help broken, distant people become one? The answer: absolutely. Reconciliation
is an interestingly liberating process.
On that note, “reconciliation is difficult,
requiring vulnerability, honesty, and humility” [Philip Gulley]. In reconciliation,
we have to do more than say I forgive you. Reconciliation requires grunt work. Matthew 15:8 identifies cheap
talk: “This people honors me with their lips, but their
hearts are far from me.” We have to put everything on the table. Just do
it. Be open, understanding, and accepting. Action speaks louder than words.
